Buffalo, NY: A settlement of more than $3 million dollars has been awarded to a local union boilermaker for injuries resulting from exposure to asbestos on the job. Earl W. Tredinnick, III, 61, of Elma, New York, who worked as a Local 7 Union Boilermaker between 1967 and 2002 developed mesothelioma in the fall of 2008, and brought suit against various companies responsible for a variety of asbestos-containing products. Oakland, CA: Lehman Brothers has agreed to spend $3.7 million to complete the demolition of more than 90 buildings at the former Oak Knoll Naval base. Lehman, now bankrupt, had partnered with SunCal Companies in a planned 960-unit residential development project in the East Oakland hills area. After touring the site in October, the financial company agreed to release funding that will pay for contractors to remove asbestos, trash and debris from barracks, homes, garages and other structures. Jefferson County, TX: A Texas-based carpenter has filed an asbestos-related disease lawsuit against 38 companies, claiming that his asbestos-related disease was wrongfully caused, that the defendant companies failed to test the asbestos-containing products before they were introduced into the marketplace, and that they failed to warn him about the dangers of asbestos.

Boston, MA: Two veterans, Jeffrey Cox and James Garland, are suing KBR Inc. and Halliburton Co., claiming they “poisoned” them and at least 100,000 other soldiers and contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan by exposing them to toxic smoke and fumes.
KBR Inc. and Halliburton, both of Texas, were hired by the U.S. government to dispose of waste on bases and camps. The suit claims that both companies have ignored their contractual obligations by burning vast quantities of unsorted waste in open-air “burn pits” with no safety controls since 2003.
Toxic waste allegedly burned in the pits includes trucks, tires, lithium batteries, styrofoam, human corpses, medical supplies including those used in smallpox shots, paints, asbestos, animal carcasses and hundreds of thousands of plastic water bottles, according to the suit. (Boston Herald)
Houston, TX: The widow of an engineer who died from asbestos mesothelioma has been awarded more than $1 million as settlement of her lawsuit. Tyler, TX: A man from Pennsylvania, who worked in Texas for T & N Limited and TAF International Limited, claims he developed asbestos mesothelioma as a result of being exposed to defective and unreasonably dangerous products while on the job. Old Hickory, TN: DuPont and 20 other companies are facing a wrongful death lawsuit brought by Roger Neely, who lost his mother to asbestos mesothelioma. Ruby Neely contracted asbestos-related cancer as a result of second hand or take-home asbestos exposure from her husband’s contaminated work clothes. Her husband, Lively Neely, worked at the DuPont plant in Old Hickory for 20 years. (Tennessean.com)
