Trick Riding Man Dies in Motorcycle Accident

Bridgton, ME: A 34-year-old man recently died in a motorcycle accident while trick riding.

Justin Dilks was standing on the seat of his 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle while steering with one hand and waving with the other when he lost control and crashed on US Route 302 in Bridgton, Maine, according to the Kennebec Journal.

Bridgton Police Chief David Lyons told the news source that the unsafe driving was unusual for most motorcycle riders.

"Most motorcyclists don't do dangerous maneuvers like that on the highway," he said. "Thanks goodness it doesn't happen often, or we'd see more of this."

Maine state law has rules in place regarding trick riding - both wheels of the motorcycle must be on the road, for instance - but doesn't expressly prohibit standing on the seat. Sergeant John O'Malley, head of Scarborough's motorcycle patrol, told the news provider that he would ticket anyone he saw riding in that manner for unsafe driving.

A woman who was following Dilks was injured in a motorcycle crash when she tried to avoid him.
