Natural Remedy Fraud: Take Lipozene with a Grain of Salt

. By
Washington, DCSome companies practicing Natural Remedy Fraud are as sneaky and slick as snake-oil salespeople. Take Lipozene, for example. Its website is rife with referrals about clinical studies endorsed by the Obesity Research Institute. It appears that this "institute" is the manufacturer of Lipozene.

The Obesity Research Institute must have weighed their financial odds when it comes to fraudulently marketing this weight-loss "natural" supplement. Lipozene must be making them substantial profits: why else would they be able to afford yet another multi-million dollar charge by the Federal Trade Commission for making false and unsubstantiated claims?

In June 2005, the marketers of the dietary supplements FiberThin and Propolene settled Federal Trade Commission charges that their misleading weight-loss claims violated federal laws. As it turns out, one of the principal defendants was the Obesity Research Institute. According to the FTC, the defendants were barred from making false claims about any dietary product in the future and were required to pay $1.5 million in consumer redress. (Here is more information on the FTC Ruling.)

The makers of Lipozene state, that besides being "endorsed by the Obesity Research Institute" (a.k.a. themselves), a major university conducted double blind studies. Unfortunately, and not surprisingly, no one at the institute is available to back those claims. It does, however, "not ask that you change your daily life, just take Lipozene."

If it were possible to lose weight by not changing your daily life, by not decreasing your calorie intake, by not exercising, the makers of Lipozene would win the Nobel Prize for science and be gazzilionaires.

Back to company profits. The only (purportedly) weight-loss ingredient that Lipozene contains is Glucomannan, which is available at most any local health store for a fraction of the cost of Lipozene.

And don't be fooled by these comments from the Lipozene makers:

1. "If you're doing your homework before deciding which weight loss product to use, you may have come across a number of positive and negative reviews on Lipozene and other weight loss products."

2. "If you've encountered negative Lipozene reviews, it's important that you take them with a grain of salt and consider the source."

3. "Many web sites that claim to be diet product review sites are actually disguised affiliate sites created for the sole purpose of advertising or selling the affiliate's products. These sites are obviously biased and do not always give you the whole truth."

Rather, the comments should read:

1. When you do your homework, you will come across the FTC ruling, and you will find out that you can save a lot of money by simply adding more fiber to your diet and not buying Lipozene.

2. Consider the source of Lipozene's clinical studies and do not take that with a grain of salt.

3. The "Obesity Research Institute" is set up to sell its product Lipozene. Its sole purpose appears to be created for the selling and advertising of Lipozene. And that constitutes fraudulent advertising.

It's aweful in how these companies use fraudulent practices in their products and it's very misleading the consumers and taking their hard-earned money...too---Well,that was case with myself....I wanted so much too lose weight and was willingly too try Lipozene....too get my weight off in which I do think it might of helped, some but, noticed after taking them I was not eating much....so,I noticed I started having problems with my stomach, digestive tract, polyp developed on my colon....and,other symptoms happened I think was a result from it.....I started off buying this product from Wal-Mart and usually I bought pack that had bottles in each pkg...so,I kept in buying when I's run out....like almost as if,I was addicted too the product....did this off&on for years....

I actually gained weight using this product. When I tried to get my money back (that they charged my card fraudulently) they said, No can do, i was passed the return date.
It wouldn't have mattered what I said...... they would have had an answer for NOT returning my funds.

I bought Lipozene many years ago and I didn't lose a pound...I thought it was just me , but since I have been reading these comments I see it wasn't me... I wished the government would pass laws that if they find any product after being tested by the FDA doesn't work fine them heavy and then have them shut down.

When will the US Government stop squeezing money out of these companies and actually level a criminal charge that would do the public some good. The government is aware that these token fines do no harm to these fraud peddlers. To the public it becomes obvious that the Government is complicit in this entire process.

It won't work unless you take it with a grain of salt. It's odd that they forgot to tell you to take a grain of salt with this supplement. Actually, a grain is too small of an amount. A teaspoon should do the trick.

This product I'd a ripoff, plain and simple, any company that tells you not to watch your diet or exercise is irresponsible, uninformed and dishonest. You may as well eat the the bottle that this junk comes in than swallowing Lipozene, it would be more effective and cheaper. The fact that retailers like Walmart sell this junk is disturbing and they should be held to account for their complicity in this ongoing scam as should the cable companies who allow the product to be advertised on their networks, they are all in on this terrible conspiracy to deceive and defraud the public. The Obesisty Research Clinic has the same credibility as the snake oil salesmen of years gone by, in short Buying a bottle of Lipomzene is akin to flushing your money down the toilet and the Obesity Research Institute is a sham. A company that requires your credit card number I. Order to contact the. Should immediately be viewed with suspicion, no legitimate company would do that, as for their return policy, you will never never never get a refund.

It is in the interests of Homeopathy that all such exploitation does end up in court.

The web site for Lipozene does not describe this product as being homeopathic. It may be natural, but unless it is prepared according to homeopathic pharmacy standards it is not considered a homeopathic medicine.

This product is not homeopathic.

Lipozene is NOT a homeopathic preparation.

The corporations who sell products like Lipozene work with call centers and account managers at these call centers set up these programs. Automated programs are set up using a form of XML that have voice recognition software that can interact with voice responses. The general ethic of the products is completely ignored simply for the revenue they generate. If a call goes through to an actual person, they are most likely contractors located in the south-east of the U.S. They are paid a piece of the sale of the products that they sell.
The Obama Coin and the "Free Money" programs are typical of this type of business. Morality and ethics play no part in the business decisions. Buyer beware. Do your homework. Their full-time job is to separate their customers from their money.

I know that all the actors on the Lipozene commercials are lying because I was watching tv late one night and I saw a show about how people get hired for these type of roles. I think it was on the TRUTV channel. In it were the exact same ones featured on the commercial. They were asked to lie convincingly. I was so shocked that people would lie to the American public straight faced just to land a role on a commercial and make a few bucks. I would love to see the original program again. I would record it and send it to the media. That way, I would be able to stop getting furious every time I see the Lipozene commercial.

This the above it correct then why are they still advertising the same information on T.V.?

Did they find a university to back them up?

I live in Eastern Washington State if anyone cares to follow up.

If the United States Government would protect the people instead of the corrupted businesses,we wouldn't have half of the problems what we have in this country. As we all know most of the major businesses who are allowed to get away with lying have lobbyist who's main objective is to pay their way into the politician back pocket.

Lipozene is such a scam, I'm surprised that they haven't been shut down. I ordered some pills and they spent over 30 minuntes badgering me into buying more products. I never spoke to a live person because they didn't offer that option, just a noisy recording. I'm cancelling the order ASAP. Don't do business with Lipozene, you'll lose money and gain nothing except for more weight.
