Trader Joe's Recalls Peanut Butter Due to Salmonella

Los Angeles, CATrader Joe's has issued a peanut butter recall after the store's Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter was linked to 29 cases of salmonella in 18 states. The majority of those who developed salmonella after eating the peanut butter were under the age of 18. No deaths have been linked to the recalled peanut butter, but four people were hospitalized, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">The company announced the recall September 22, and noted production and distribution of the peanut butter have been suspended pending an investigation. Salmonella is a potentially serious infection that particularly affects young children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems. Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever and cramps, which usually arise within 12 to 72 hours of infection.

The recalled peanut butter is sold nationwide. It is sold under the name Trader Joe's Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter made with Sea Salt. It comes in a 16 ounce, plastic jar.
