Yet Another Toyota Recall

. By Email to a friendEmail
Tokyo: Toyota Motor Corp. has announced yet another recall. This time 740,000 vehicles in the US (1.53 million globally) are being recalled to fix a brake-related problem that may cause fluid leaks. The models recalled include the 2005-2006 Toyota Avalon, 2004-2006 Toyota Highlander (non-hybrid models), 2004-2006 Lexus GS300, 2004-200 IS250, 2004-2006 IS350.

The recalled vehicles pertain to the brake cylinders. On its website, Toyota said in some cases, a small amount of brake fluid can leak from the brake master cylinder and as a result, braking performance may gradually decline. If the small amount of break fluid does leak into the brake booster, it can trigger a brake warning light, which will then deliver a spongy brake pedal feel, and possibly reduce braking performance.

This announcement came on the heels of another recall in the US and Canada of Toyota's 1.3 million
Corolla and Matrix cars carrying defective engine control modules that could cause the vehicles to stall. In the past year, Toyota has recalled over 10 million vehicles mostly for unintended acceleration.

Toyota said that dealers will replace the brake master cylinder cup with a newly-designed unit at no charge. Owners will be notified of the campaign in early November.

Meanwhile, Chrysler, Dodge, and Volvo have issued recalls for a number of vehicles with two possible defects involving airbags and steering assemblies.
