Twenty-Three Companies Named in Texas Asbestos Lawsuit

. By
Beaumont, TXA Texas woman has filed an asbestos lawsuit against 23 corporations alleged of contributing to her husband's death from lung cancer.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">Ransom Glen Phillips worked as a contractor for nearly 40 years before his retirement in 1985. He was allegedly in extensive contact with asbestos fibers, which his wife believes caused the cancer that took his life in August 2008, according to the South East Texas Record. The complaint argues that Philips was never warned of the dangers of exposure to asbestos on the job.

The lawsuit accuses the companies of negligently providing an unsafe work environment for their employees. The case will appear in Texas' 58th District Court.

Research has consistently showed a link between the inhalation of asbestos fibers and cancer.

A recent study published in the International Journal of Hygiene and Environmental Health found that 53 percent of workers whose jobs consistently exposed them to asbestos had contracted some form of asbestos disease, with 31 percent exhibiting lung problems. Eight members of the study died as a result of lung cancer.
