Sacramento, CA: One worker has been taken to hospital and another treated for exhaustion after a crane collapsed at the Scandia Family Fun Center in Sacramento Wednesday afternoon. The worker was rushed to Mercy San Juan Medical Center with a crushed arm and broken femur. Firefighters had to use an aerial ladder to rescue the man, Sacramento Metro Fire District Asst. Fire Chief Dale Turner told CNN.com

A second man was trapped when the crane collapsed, and was treated for exhaustion, but not taken to hospital. The men were on the crane to service the Screamer ride. "When they released all of that tension and they were basically taking that yellow arm that spins around, they're releasing all of the weight from the base and putting all of the weight onto the crane itself, when they released the last bolt, the crane actually had too much weight on it and toppled over," Turner told CNN.com.

A spokesperson for the Scandia Family Fun Center said he couldn’t comment and what had gone wrong. Initial reports indicated that the accident wasn’t caused by the Screamer ride, as the ride didn’t fail. An investigation is underway by the California OSHA. The sheriff’s department has shut down the amusement park center for clean up.
