Florida Woman Fired for Blowing Whistle on ERISA Plan Violations

. By
Naples, FLA former controller for a south Florida golf club was recently fired and jailed after alleging violations of the company's ERISA plan in her annual financial report.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">Leslie Boran, a wheelchair-bound 50-year-old CPA from Naples, Florida, prepared a report detailing routine violations of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) committed by the club's board of trustees since the 1970s. After she returned from a vacation to Rome, Boran was barred from entering the club's board room, told that she had been fired, and arrested for trespassing and obstruction, according to the Naples News.

Boran originally informed the board of the violations when she was hired in 2007. She demanded that the company correct and report the violations to the government, and believed the violations to have been amended shortly thereafter.

Boran's brother and attorney, David Agoston, claims his sister was fired for alerting club trustees of the violations, which he claims continue to exist.

"There are many, many more serious violations going on at Poinciana Golf Club regarding pension issues than Leslie showing up without an invite," he told the news provider.
