Wife: Avandia Responsible for Husband's Health Crisis

Louisville, KT: Marie's husband Steve is living in a nursing home. He has been there since his health seriously declined, following illness, heart attacks and liver and kidney problems. Marie says that Avandia caused Steve's health crisis.
Steve has been on Avandia for a while, almost 10 years. However, his serious health problems began this year when he developed cellulitis, a condition that diabetics are susceptible to, and then necrotizing fasciitis, more commonly known as flesh eating disease. Steve was hospitalized and a surgeon removed approximately one-fourth of Steve's left leg.
It is most likely that neither of those conditions was caused by Steve's use of Avandia. However, Marie says that what happened next, was caused by the drug. Following his illness, Steve suffered two heart attacks in a fairly short period. One of the heart attacks occurred at home and the other occurred in the hospital.
While Steve was in the hospital, doctors ran some tests and determined that he needed a liver transplant. "He didn't drink, he didn't do any of the things that would cause liver problems," Marie says. "But when I looked Avandia up, I realized that it can cause liver problems. It makes sense that would cause his heart attacks and his liver problems."
In addition to his liver problems, Steve's kidneys also failed and doctors were required to jump-start them. His health continued to fail to the point that Steve can no longer walk on his own or take care of himself. Marie believes that his problems are linked to Avandia.
"When my husband was in the hospital, I saw an alert on the television about Avandia, that it can cause heart attacks and deaths," Marie says. "So I called the hospital and asked them to take him off Avandia immediately, which they did. After that I started researching Avandia. My husband never drank. He quit smoking in 1984. Now, he's in a nursing home. He gets very confused and loses his physical and mental faculties.
"He is the best man I ever met in my life. He is the smartest and kindest man. He should not have suffered one iota of what he suffered. I believe in my heart that Avandia has caused his suffering."
